Part II Description: Film Screening & Discussion

Grab your lunch and join PhilMO for the virtual lunchtime screening & discussion of the documentary Digging In

This film by KC filmmakers Nathan Johnson and Jay W. Austin is designed to help funders understand concentration and consolidation, land access, and climate change and explore the connection these issues have to their work and the work of their grantees. Filmed across the United States, the Missouri communities of Auxvasse, Kansas City, and Mexico are specifically featured. The film will build upon themes discussed in Part I, which explores the U.S. Farm Bill. After the screening, we will have a robust discussion.

This program is designed with PhilMO Members and Non-Member Funders in mind. Share with your colleagues who are interested in the intersection of grantmaking, food systems, and equity.

Special thanks to Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems Funders (SAFSF) and PhilMO Member Missouri Foundation for Health for supporting access to the film.

Part I Description: MO Funder Briefing on the Farm Bill

Connecting food production, nutrition, and natural resources, Congress has passed Farm Bill legislation regularly since the 1930s. Every five years, the bill expires and is updated. The current bill was enacted in 2018 and is scheduled to expire this year. What is the status of the Farm Bill? What does this legislation mean for Missouri -- and how can Missouri funders meaningfully engage?

PhilMO Members and non-Member funders are invited to a briefing on the 2023 Farm Bill with Philanthropy Missouri and Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems Funders (SAFSF).

The briefing will include an overview of the Farm Bill, how it affects Missouri, the current state of the bill/extension, and any expected future Congressional actions. Additionally, Missouri funders and advocates will discuss philanthropic opportunities to fill gaps and provide leadership to benefit Missourians.
