What is Lunch with Leaders?

Philanthropy Missouri's Lunch with Leaders is a unique leadership development program aimed at fostering the next generation of philanthropic sector leaders in corporate, private, and family foundations. The program aims to create relationships and spark dialogue among new and experienced grantmakers.

How does it work?

New grantmakers and a rotating cast of experienced grantmakers gather for an informal lunch coordinated by Philanthropy Missouri. Each lunch has four spots for new grantmakers and is hosted by one experienced grantmaker. Meeting in small groups encourages informal, yet robust conversation around relevant topics. A "springboard" article is sent out in advance, which helps prompt discussion.

How will it work virtually?

To open this opportunity to our statewide Membership, this lunch will be held online via Zoom Meeting.  Participants will receive a $30 gift card to a food delivery website to select their meal and have it delivered to their workspace.

Who should attend?

PhilMO Members (FREE) and Non-Member Grantmakers ($50.00) who have been in the field less than 5 years. Space is limited to 4 participants.

About Serena Muhammad

As the Deputy Director of the Saint Louis MHB, Serena is responsible for managing the organization’s $14,000,000 community investment strategy. In this capacity, Serena leads cross-sector initiatives that focus on alleviating the social, educational, and health inequities that keep people and places from reaching their full potential.

Her recent appointment as the Managing Director of the COVID-19 Regional Response Team allowed her to lend her expertise in system building to strengthen the crisis response infrastructure in the St. Louis region. Serena staffs the St. Louis Area Violence Prevention Commission and is active in several criminal justice reform efforts. She also provides oversight to the System of Care St. Louis, a federally funded initiative to improve access to behavioral health services for children with serious emotional disturbance and their families. Serena is a member of the Board of Directors for the City of St. Louis Board of Health and Hospitals and also served as the Founding Board Chair of Build Missouri Health — an affiliated nonprofit of the Missouri Foundation for Health

Serena received her B.A in English from Xavier University in Louisiana and her M.F.A. and M.P.P.A. from University of Missouri – St. Louis.
