FAQs

Why did the Metropolitan Association for Philanthropy (MAP) change its name?
After helping donors chart their course for nearly four decades, MAP embraced a new identity as the Gateway Center for Giving (the Center) in 2007. The new name reflects many changes impacting the work done by the nonprofit sector – both donors and public charities - to improve our communities.

Does the Center make grants?
The Center itself is not a grantmaking organization, but rather provides information and services that help donors work more effectively and have a greater impact on the issues they care about and the nonprofits they fund.

Who can be a member of the Center?
Our members are individual donors, organized grantmaking foundations and giving programs, as well as professionals providing services to donors in the region. For more information on membership.

Why should I join?
This is a time of transformation for donors and nonprofits. Challenged by demands for more accountability, increasing needs in our communities and greater competition for charitable dollars, organizations and individuals serving the common good are constantly seeking opportunities to more effectively meet their missions. The Center is the region’s leading resource for connecting donors and nonprofits through effective partnerships. We provide services and information to help donors and the nonprofits they fund to connect, learn and act in ways that improve the St. Louis region.
